"It was initially a fairy tale to scare misbehaving children. Then long ago, in late December, during the peak of winter, people of all ages across the Desolation began to disappear at night. Those who remained claimed to have heard its wicked ethereal cackling followed by the screams of those it took. Strange hoof prints in the surrounding snow, the faint echo of chains, and the many disappearances have left everyone in a perpetual state of fear when the last month of the year draws near."
